2 Day Cruise: Follow in Evert Taube´s slip stream

Gothenburg – Lysekil

Evert Taube is Sweden’s most famous troubadour. On this trip, there is a serious danger of a sing along. This is a very special cruise.

Evert was the son of the light house keeper on Vinga. He attended the island school until he was 13 years old. His two uncles were light house keepers on two neighbouring islands. I think Evert had more saltwater in his veins than blood. His whole life proves this, he spent most of his life on or near the sea. His youth was spend frolicking in the sea, fishing and guarding sheep.

He taught himself his first English words by reading whisky labels.

The list of his songs that are about the Swedish West Coast is long.  ”Solig morgon” is about a shop keepers daughter, Siv Sjöstrand,  that is collecting water from the well on Otterön. ”Telegrafisten Alfred Hanssons vals”, tells  about another lovely lady that caught Evert’s eye, Rosa Stranne, telegraphist at Smögen. ”Vals på Ängönis about his time with the Johansson farmers. Others are ”Inbjudan till Bohuslän”, ”Maj på Malö”, and the wonderful love song ”Min älskling du är som en ros”.

This trip show us some fantastic places and we start with Marstrand. In 2015 it was crowned the most beautiful town in Sweden, by TheCultureTrip. We stay overnight at the luxurious Stenungsbaden’s Yacht Club. As part of the trip we stop at Janne Bark’s mussel bar in Lyckorna. Janne is a true enthusiast for his mussels. He informs, fishes and eats mussels all day long. Another song tells of the merchant Flink (Handelsman Flink) on Flatön. Flink was a nickname, roughly translated nimble or quick. He was quite the opposite…

Day 1 Gothenburg – Marstrand – Stenungsbaden

We embark in Gothenburg and start the day with a lovely breakfast buffet. Then we sail north towards the historical island of Marstrand. This is one of the must do places if you visit the west coast of Sweden. There is time to explore the old fortress and even some shopping.

Lunch is served on board and then we continue north and on this cruise, we sail on the east side of the large island of Tjörn. In the afternoon, we arrive at Stenungsbaden Yacht Club for our overnight accommodation. Dinner can be booked at the hotel or why not take the local bus into Stenungsund and its many restaurants.

Day 2 Stenungsbaden – Flatön – Lysekil

Rested after a good night sleep we continue north passed Orust and Tjörn. Janne Bark welcomes us to his mussel bar, Klocktornets Musselbar in Lyckorna, just south of Uddevalla, and we will of course sample this delicious mussel. As fresh as can be, straight from the sea. Janne will tell us some of the stories about mussels as well as some fact about its cultural importance.

Then it is off towards Flatön, made famous by Evert Taube. Merchant Flink ran this for many years and his shop is preserved as a museum. This was an important meeting place for travellers. We can browse his wares and shop for souvenirs.  Enjoy a tasty lunch and take in the fantastic salty air on this serene island. The currents will then take us to Malö, also this made famous by Evert Taube. ”Maj på Malö”, is another lady that caught Everts eye. He was very fond of the ladies! The captain will point out other famous places as we sail north to Lysekil. The magnificent church on top of the mountain tells us we have arrived. Our bus is waiting to take you back to Gothenburg.
